When Life Gets in the Way
We understand that conflicts happen - medical appointments, family obligations, and unexpected situations are part of life. Here's how to handle them properly.
IMPORTANT: Submit absence requests at least 24 hours in advance for excused status. For emergencies, contact directors immediately.
Excused Absences
24-hour advance notice required (except emergencies)
Acceptable reasons:
Medical emergency or personal sickness
Death in the family
Religious holiday
Approved school function
Pre-approved special circumstances
Contact directors directly - telling another student is not proper notification.
Emergency Contact:
Mr. Kai Rudnick, Head Band Director
Email: kai.rudnick@birdvilleschools.net
Unexcused Absences
May result in:
Grade reduction
Loss of performance status
Common unexcused reasons:
Work, oversleeping, transportation issues
Doctor/dentist appointments
Family trips, church functions
Non-school athletic events
Testing (SAT, ACT, etc.)
Note: Leaving band events early is unacceptable except in emergencies.
